5 things you shouldn't do on a first date

First dates can be daunting. Will you hug when you meet, or kiss on the cheek? Just one, or two cheeks? Oh God, I'm already getting flustered. What will you say? Will you drink too much and pass out in your spicy tomato pasta (don't ask, it was a long time ago, and yes chilli in the eyes really stings)?

We at Aura understand. We say relax, you are who you are, love it or leave it. That's what finding the one is all about after all. Finding someone who loves you for being you. But with this being said, it never hurts to show off your best side. After all, you only get to make a first impression once.... So here are our five top tips for a first date:

1. Don't check your phone every few minutes

Nothing says, “I’m not interested in you” like checking your phone during a date. It's annoying, and rude. Try and be as present as possible. It's the only way to really enjoy someone's company.

2. Don't only talk about yourself

It’s natural to want to impress your date, or to just be a bit nervous - both things that can lead to a bad case of never-stops-talking-itis. But we all know what it's like spending time with someone who only talks about themselves... not fun. Make sure to take the time to ask your date about themselves and really listen to their answers.

3. Don't be rude to waiters

This should be a no brainer. Mean is a bad look.

4. Don't leave them alone while you smoke

If you smoke and your date doesn’t, popping out for a cigarette while they wait with your stuff, or dragging them out into the cold with you, is never going to come across as charming. After you’ve known each other longer this is less of an issue but on the first date, try to hold out until it’s over or you're both outside naturally.

5. Don't be the only one getting drunk

If you’re drunk and your date isn’t, it's probable that only one of you is having a good time - and it’s not them. This goes with rocking up drunk. One or two drinks to steady the nerves is fine, but arriving plastered is a real turn off.

And that's it. The main thing is to have fun. Fun is always sexy!
